Derrick May's Hi-Tek Soul Party
 多くの人々がムーブメント・フェスティバルと同じくらい楽しみにしているのは、デトロイト市内のあらゆる場所で行われるフェスのアフター・パーティー。ケニー・ディクソン・ジュニア（※1）の『スケーティング・パーティー』のためにデトロイト西部へ向かう人、デリック・メイ（※2）の『ハイテック・ソウル・パーティー』のためにダウンタウンに残る人…。
1515ブロードウェイ（※3）といえば、ミュージック・インスティテュート（※4）の閉鎖後、「テクノ・レジェンド」と呼ばれるDJやミュージシャン達が、パーティーを始めた思い出深い場所！周辺の様相は変化したものの、1515は当時のまま。最初のDJはクェンティン・ハリス。彼はニューヨークのDJで、この日は素晴らしいハウス／テクノ・ハウスのセットを展開。ブースの中で踊りながら プレイしており、その姿は本当に楽しそう！
 気分転換のために外へ出たら、デリック・メイのブッキング・マネージャー兼パーティー・プロモーターであるリチャード・マーヘルと、「ゴッド・ファーザー・オブ・テクノ・ソウル」ことエディー・フォークス（※6）がケンカしているのを目撃、私はうろたえてしまいました。
「皆がここにいるのは、楽しい時間を過ごして平和な気持ちを分かち合うためじゃないか！」、私達が双方をなだめることに。誰も警察を呼ばなかったので、刑務所入りを免れたラッキーなエディー！
そんなこともあり、デリック・メイのプレイ・スタートは1時間遅れてしまいました。しかし、会場全体を包み込むような、デリックの美しく見事なミックス！さっきの事件でのストレスなんて、ものともしていない様子。
2人の、毛色の全く異なるテクノ・レジェンドによって作られたとてもセンチメンタルでノスタルジックなこの夜は、忘れられないものとなりました。

After the first day of the Movement Festival, people are looking forward to many good afterparties throughout the city of Detroit. Many people went to Kenny Dixon Jr.’s Skating party on the west side of Detroit. Many people remained downtown and went to Derrick May’s Hi-Tek Soul party at 1515 Broadway.
What memories this place brings back! After the closing of the original Music Institute, this is the place where many of the Techno legends started throwing parties. Although the area around it had changed, 1515 had remained the same. The first DJ of the night was Quentin Harris, a New York DJ who played a wonderful set of house and techno house. And he really got into the music as well, dancing in the dj booth as he played his records!
While going outside for a breath of fresh air, I was dismayed to witness a physical altercation between the booking manager/party promoter for Derrick May, Richard Maher and the Godfather of Techno Soul, Eddie Fowlkes. All we can suggest to both people is everyone is here to have a good time and to give peace a chance! Luckily no police were called and Eddie Fowlkes did not have to go to jail!
Because of this, Derrick May started an hour late. However, when he did come on finally, it was quite beautiful. It was a harmonious and splendid mix by this legendary DJ, despite the stresses of the night! And the theater stayed packed the whole time.
It was a very sentimental and nostalgic night to be there, made memorable by two distinct and different Techno legends.
