 週末ごとに寒さと雪に見舞われ続けたデトロイトに、久し振りの、そしてこの冬初めての小春日和が訪れた2月8日。
ダウンタウンでは、より暖かく充実した時間を過ごそうと、多くの若者が夜な夜なこぞって街へ繰り出した。
深夜、私がローラズ・ナイトクラブに着いた頃には、既にちょうど良い具合の客入りが。ここでは、ジャズ・バンドのライブやハウス・ミュージックのDJが楽しめ、壁には美しい絵が描かれている。キャパシティー200〜300人以下の小さな店だ。
 客層は30代前半から40代、小綺麗な身なりをした中産階級のアフリカ系アメリカ人が中心。自分と同世代の人々がにこやかに過ごしている姿は、見ているだけで楽しいものだ。
この日のDJはブルース・ベイリー、ディープ・ハウスやハウス・クラシックスを主にプレイしている。音楽に入り込むように力強く踊る観客達。そこにはクラブの持つ心地良い空気と共に、素晴らしい時間が流れていた。
ローラズ・ナイトクラブでは音楽だけでなく、ポエトリー・リーディングなども行われている。そして、オーダーできる料理は、デトロイトのクラブの中でも最高峰の味！
聴覚と心のマッサージを受けられるこの店は、たとえて言うならば「カルチャーのスパ」。もしあなたがローラズ・ナイトクラブを訪れたら、あたかも特別などこかへ連れて行かれたかのように感じ、閉店時間になっても、立ち去るのがためらわれることうけあい。
デトロイトのお洒落な若者や、様々な物事に意識的でポジティブな、あらゆる民族のたまり場になっている。

Party at Lola's Nightclub

After several weekends of cold weather and heavy snows, it was the first mild weekend in Detroit in a long time. In downtown Detroit, many young people decided to go out and have a good time given the warmer temperature at night.
Arriving at Lola’s just about midnight, it already has a nice size crowd. It is a small nightclub that features live jazz bands earlier in the day and on Friday nights, house music DJs. The club has beautiful paintings and murals that adorn its walls. The club can hold no more than maybe a couple of hundred people.
The crowd was mostly well dressed, middle class African-Americans in their early 30’s to the 40’s. It was nice to see the young adults of Detroit having a good time.
The DJ for the night was DJ Bruce Bailey who played deep house and old classics. The crowd really got into the music and danced with strong feeling and energy. It was a very nice time to be there, the club had a nice vibe.
It has a little something going on almost everyday of the week such as live poetry and the some of the best food served in a Detroit nightclub!
This is truly a cultural spa that can massage the hearing, and the mind, and when time is up you don’t want to leave because you feel as if someone has taken you somewhere special.
The place to be for Detroit’s hip young, ethnic, conscious, positive minded people.
